ABOUT ME

Since I completed my photography degree in 1985, I've continued to update my skills. In 1996, I took a year out to catch up with the computer age and studied an MA in Interactive Multimedia. Yet I've never lost my interest in experimenting with 19th century photographic techniques and liquid emulsions. I always juggle a couple of personal projects alongside my commissions.

A lot of my work is around memory. Over the last few years, I've been working on projects with older people to record and archive oral histories as well as involving them in intergenerational projects using life stories and personal experiences as a starting point. These practical workshops may involve photography, video, creative writing, or even fabric collages.

Every project brings a new challenge and I approach each one with a fresh eye using the techniques relevant to the theme, the desired outcome and the people involved.

Prior to freelancing, I worked for 20 years as an education officer for the Museum of the Moving Image and for the British Film Institute. I'm experienced in devising programmes, project managing, delivering workshops or talks, and fundraising for projects.

Please contact me to discuss any projects and commissions.

I started a blog to document my experiences whilst Resident Artist at The Steeple in Newburgh, Fife during May-July 2010 and am continuing to write it now that I'm back in London. Check it out at: marysiaphotos
